From 21 to 23 October 2020, an intriguing seminar for journalists from regional media in the Republic of Moldova took place, focused on the issue of freedom of the press and fight against misinformation and hoaxes. The event was organized by the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Moldova, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Chisinau, therefore the participants were mainly focused on presenting positive examples from the Slovak media environment. The representative of the Embassy on the event was Mr. Maroš Kramár, Development Cooperation Diplomat.
Among the distinguished guests, there were:
Mr. Peter Michalko - Head of the EU Delegation in Moldova who also personally opened the seminar, succeeded by
Mr. Vladimír Bilčík - Slovak Member of the European Parliament;
Mr. Pavol Demeš - Foreign Policy Analyst and Former Minister of International Relations of the Slovak Republic;
Mrs. Lucia Kišš - Director of the Slovak Agency for International Development Cooperation;
Mr. Ján Orlovský - Executive Director of the Open Society Foundation in the Slovak Republic,
Mr. Jaromír Novák - correspondent of the Slovak Press Agency in Brussels;
and Mr. Iurie Popovici – the Honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic in the Republic of Moldova who also presented their views via videoconference.
The event will be followed by planned activities of SlovakAid in the Republic of Moldova, aimed at supporting local media, organized together with the Polish Solidarity Fund. The cooperation will take place within the so-called "Delegated Cooperation", by the program of the European Commission's "Annual Action Plan 2020".
